Tried to start up the designjet Z5200 today and I get through the boot-up but when the initialization starts I get a code of
02,1: 10. According to service manual code 02,1: 10. is for the encoder also in the service manual it just shows 02,1:yz
What does yz mean in the error code ? Also 1 time I got the error code 08,11 . Service manual says 08:11 is for the front
panel . again it gives 08:yz . Can someone tell me what the yz stands for ? After that 1 time I have not seen the error code
08:11 again.
The carriage is in the middle part of the printer. So I assume some one unplugged the printer to get the carriage to stop
in the middle. My last question is does the carriage return to the right side of the printer when the power
is turned back on ? Or do I half to manually return it back to the right end ?

Never had the problem with fords but on the 1998 - 2005 Mercedes Benz ML320 there is a side vent on the rear
passenger side where the jack is stowed at and is a revolving door for mice. If the Vehicle sits for a while like at a pick n pull
parts yard you are bound to run across a nest of mice. luckily all the one I found the mice were long gone .
No noise from the carriage but I do hear the cooling fan running in back I guess it is to keep the formatter board cool. The printer arrived with carriage between the right end and middle of the printer. Yes the nest was on top of the carriage. I did some cleaning with 98% alcohol and q-tips but stayed away from any plastic parts. I downloaded the service manual about 3 months ago and printed out a hard copy and placed it in a 3 ring binder. I also have the users manual and specs sheet
all in the same 3 ring binder.
What page does it show the stop in the service manual ? I have looked the manual over several times and saw a reference
to it during a calibration test but no reference is given as to where it is located at. I was a radio repairman in the US Army
so I know a little bit about electronics . i live near the VA/NC border off of interstate 95. if you down my neck of the woods
give me a holler
Gotta go over my tool box and see if I have T-8, T-10, T-15 and a #2 Allen wrench I may have them in my RC helicopter tool kit but will half to look to be sure. Nothing gets me POed more than thinking I have the tool I will need then finding out I dont and half to stop everything and go and purchase the tool. Hope you don't mind all of my questions and I am pretty sure there will be more to follow 🙂

When you turn the printer on, the carriage should move back to it's home position automatically. No need for manual intervention, matter of fact, best if you don't move it manually to it's home since there may be interference from the printhead cleaners.
If you have a service manual, it explains the question you have about the z/x designations. Can't post the whole thing here but will post relevant:
Reading a System Error Code
System Error Codes explain which component/system is failing and what action should be taken to
resolve the problem. System Error Codes are displayed directly on the front panel (but can also be seen
on the Information Page) and have been defined in the format XX.YZ. or XX.n:YZ.m.
● XX: Can be a malfunctioning subsystem or process (2 digits).
● n: Subsystem or process Index (if more than one used in the product) - Optional.
e.g. Identify the Ink Supply (color and number).
● Y: Who should perform the action (1 digit) - (0 for User or 1 for Service Engineer).
● Z: Action to perform (1 digit).

Hopefully someone else will post up other info. Z5200 is a great printer to invest time/money into, IMHO.

Thanks for the quick reply. When I turn the printer on the carriage does not move
back to home position automatically .
The actual codes given was a 1 time code of 08:11. The code of 08:11 has been posted only once.
The other code that appears every time I try to start the printer is 02,1:10

What exactly happens when you turn on the printer? Does the carriage move or bump a little bit?
Did you look up the error code in the service manual?
Check that error code again and be sure that comma isn't period or point. I don't recall seeing commas in that error code. Also, what was the last job the printer did? When's the last time it was used?
Also, you might try pulling out the printheads after shutting down the printer with the power switch on the back. Then leave them out and reboot the printer as see if it comes up to where it asks you to install the printheads.
Ignore the YZ for right now.

Cause Solution
Encoder seems to be wrong. Try the following:
● Switch the Power OFF from the back of the Printer and
disconnect the Power cord. Reconnect the power cord
and power On the Printer.
● Check that the Carriage Assembly stopper is correctly
installed.
● Replace the Carriage Assembly See Carriage
Assembly (with or without Trailing Cable) on page 244.
● If the System Error continues, replace the Encoder
Strip refer Encoder Strip (with spring and attachment
nut) on page 231 and Encoder Sensor refer Encoder
Disk and Encoder Sensor on page 308.
02.2:YZ
Cause Solution
Problem with the Carriage PCA. Try the following:
● Switch the Power OFF from the back of the Printer and
disconnect the Power cord. Reconnect the power cord
and power On the Printer.
● Check that the Trailing Cable is not damaged.
● Check that the Trailing Cable is correctly connected
between the Main PCA and Carriage PCA.
● Replace the Carriage Assembly refer Carriage
Assembly (with or without Trailing Cable) on page 244.
● If the System Error continues, replace the Formatter
refer Formatter on page 296.
Formatter is a possiblility or the hard drive mounted on the formatter board. Check the Service manual for replacement instruction. Hard drive cannot be an off-the-shelf hd, it must come preloaded with the HP software. Usually available for cheap on Ebay.
RE: the 8:11 error, you might try removing the front panel and reseat the connection. I had a similar problem with a Z3200 and it just needed a reseating and rebooting.
Be sure you shut down the printer from the back power switch before trying any of these steps.

When I turn the printer on it will go from 0-100% then when it starts to initialize it stops and give the error code.
I cut the printer off and unplugged power cable ,waited a least 5 minutes then plugged power back up and
turned printer back on from back. Then when I turn printer on from front I get 0-100% and when initialization starts
I get the reoccurring code error. The carriage does not move at all . I even took the formatter board out and reseated the
card ( power off at the time ) With no new improvements .
The printer has been sitting in my shop / garage wrapped up for about 6 months. I purchased the printer used
from Florida and I live in North Carolina . I have been checking on the printer from time to time but had a 1 month
stay at the VA hospital and just the last few days I have been able to get to the printer again.
Attached is a screen shot of the error . If it will help I can video the complete startup till the error code appears ?

Yes, I believe that's the stop. It shows it in the service manual.
This is the printer that was mentioned in another post, correct? If so, I would recommend tearing it down and thoroughly cleaning everything, then checking all wiring for critter feasting. They love to chew on wires. (I know from experience that Ford vehicles had and engine wiring harnesses made from a soy-based material that mice considered a buffet so it happens. Not sure about HP.) If the carriage isn't making any moves at all I would suspect a power to the carriage connection. Are there any other noises you can detect during boot up? Since it looks like from your other pictures there was a nest where the carriage sat (if I was seeing the correct orientation) then it's possible some very severe damage may have occured to the carriage. Or was the carriage parked in the middle of the printer before putting into storage?
Bottom line, it looks like it needs a pretty good overall cleaning and close inspection for damaged wires before continuing to reboot it. Did you download the service manual? You'll need it for sure. (Wish that was my project; I love a good challenge!)

Fellow Vet. US Army Medical Corp. Thanks for your service. And thanks for the invite. Don't travel as much as I'd like to these days.
Just went through the whole service manual myself and couldn't find additional info on the rubber stopper but what you circled in the pic should be it.
I guess I would be looking hard at replacing the trailing cable. It's the only way the carriage gets power, obviously, and it doesn't take much to damage one. Next, I'd look at also replacing the encoder strip. Picture you posted looks pretty bad. You can try cleaning with a damp cloth but being careful not to rub too hard. The marks easily wipe off. By the time you get the contamination off, there might not be much left of the marks. These two parts are pretty inexpensive on Ebay. I would also recommend LPS Computers (https://www.lpscomputer.com/) as a good parts source. Very knowlegdable and will answer questions.
You should be fine getting a little aggressive with cleaning the plastic parts. I've used Windex type cleaners before with no problems. Might also try those magic eraser cleaners where ever you can get into. There's a lot of parts in the print bed that might be best cleaned by removing them and soaking them in Dawn or something. I would avoid the cleaners like Goof-Off or Goo-be-Gone, usually used on adhesive residue. If you do use those types, be sure to wipe off the area with a soapy cleaner (Windex, Dawn) after to remove those cleaners.

First of all may I return the honor of thanking you for your service .
My question is concerning the attached photo .
If the rod circled in red is the Carriage Rod then what is circled in green ?
Is the green object the Carriage Rail ? Or is the carriage rod the same as the carriage rail ?
There is 2 small rust spots on the carriage rail from I guess mouse urine ? I sanded the 2 spots with
1,000 Grit sanding film that is used for model cars and then buffed it out with 15,000 grit film, Cleaned the rod
with 97% alcohol then applied the HP lubricating oil .
I may go ahead and replace the rod with a new one while I have the printer apart instead of having to do it later on
But I cant find a part number or a diagram in the service manual only a reference to the rod oiling process
