I am getting the error message "there is a problem with the printer or ink system".  After going through the various checks I am getting the error code "53:1:10".

Any suggestions on what it might be?

That error is the OOPS (out of paper sensor). This is located on the right side of carriage (facing printer) It is a small flag in the paper path that detects when paper runs out. From the back of the printer, remove the cut sheet feeder (if equipped) and look through the paper path and you should see the sensor. There are diagnostics you can perform but you are going to want to check the internet and find a service manual.

Many thanks for the very useful info.  The cable to the sensor had come out so I re-inserted it.

Unfortunately although i'm no longer getting the "53:1:10" code I'm still getting the "There is a problem with the printer or ink system.

I turned the printer off then on again with the same result, so I went through the "checking the system procedure".

It gave me an ok for every test.

I then did a hard reset but with the same result.

Not sure if there's anything else I can do!!!
