Just received a Designjet T1120 SD-MFP with scanner and printer together. I was told when I received it that the hard drives were removed but that the units would still operate. I have connected the printer to the scanner and turned the units on. The printer sends out 10 loud beeps and the screen is blank. Only one of three l.e.d. lights in the back of the printer are illuminated. The scanner screen defaults to a "Reboot and select proper boot device..." message. The only question I have is: must there be hard drives installed for the units to operate?

This device will not work without the harddrive. the entire operating system for the plotter is stored on the drive. You must also purchase a drive from HP with the OS already installed. The screen for the scanner also has a drive in it as it is basically a computer so you will need to replace that drive as well. You might find a used drive on Ebay, otherwise you will need to check the HP Parts Store or an HP repair centre for the correct drives.
