Designjet z6200 Photo

I've had an 86:xxc error on this model for the last week or so, I've tried tweo different scan-axis motors (and cleaned the gear teeth in the motor shaft which attached to the carriage belt), replaced the carriage belt (old one was worn to shreds), I've also cleaned the encoder strip thoroughly and oiled both upper and lower carriage rails.

When powering on the scan-axis motor attempts to move but stops (this happens with both motors I've fitted), the machine then powers off and runs a diagnostic test where it attempts this again, then asks me to move the carriage to a different location which I do (the carriage moves without any real resistance along the entire length of the rails in both directions).

Does anyone have any ieas how to resolve this? I'm running behind on a few projects now...eek

Thanks in advance

Hi @ArchiPrint-Ed ,

It seems that the troubleshooting you performed is correct.

See the description of the error and the possible recommendation to solve it:

When the printer detects an object blocking the carriage path it will produce the error 86:01 (or 86:11)

Often the error is not caused by a paper jam but by an issue with another component used in the movement of the carriage. (Encoder Strip/Sensor, Belt & Tensioner, Lubrication felt pads, carriage assy)

Is there anything I can do to fix this?
  1. Switch the Power OFF. Check for any visible obstacles restricting the movement of the carriage. If there is a wrinkled mass of paper in side the paper path, carefully remove it.
  2. Check the condition of the rubber belt that moves the carriage. If it appears worn, split or if there are deposits of rubber inside the printer then belt will need replacing.
  3. Clean the encoder strip. (This is the thin metal strip running the entire width of the printer. It is normally located above the metal cylindrical rod that the carriage ‘slides’ on. Clean the encoder gently with a slightly damp (with water) lint-free cloth. The encoder strip is both fragile & sharp so only clean it if you need to and be very careful not to cause any damage to it.
  4. Lubricate the slider rod. Carefully clean then lubricate the metal rod that the carriage slides along. You must only use HP synthetic oil. Using other oils may cause lasting damage to the printer.

You reported that you cleaned the encoder strip, but were you able to identify if there are any scratches on it?
If there is no piece of jammed paper, the belt has also been replaced, the only indications would be about the encoder strip or carriage.

Best regards
