Microsoft Windows 11

I have had this echo happen for over 6 months to a year now. My computer has this output echo (outside of the computer) and I can hear myself. Even if I put headphones in or mute the input and output, it still echos. How do I get rid of this issue? Please help me.

Hi @Rose226,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

An echo issue like the one you're describing can be quite frustrating. Here are several steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the problem.

Check Sound Settings in Windows

Open Sound Settings:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
  2. Under "Input," ensure that the correct microphone is selected.
  3. Under "Output," ensure that the correct speakers or headphones are selected.

Disable Microphone Playback:

  1. In the Sound settings, click on "Sound Control Panel" on the right.
  2. Go to the "Recording" tab.
  3. Right-click your microphone and select "Properties."
  4. Go to the "Listen" tab and ensure that "Listen to this device" is unchecked.

Update or Roll Back Audio Drivers

Update Drivers:

  1. Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
  2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers."
  3. Right-click your audio device and select "Update driver."
  4. Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."

Roll Back Drivers:

  1. If the issue started after a recent update, in the same "Device Manager" window, right-click your audio device and select "Properties."
  2. Go to the "Driver" tab and select "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Check for Audio Enhancements

  • Disable Enhancements:
    1. Go to the Sound settings again.
    2. Click "Sound Control Panel" on the right.
    3. Go to the "Playback" tab.
    4. Right-click your default device and select "Properties."
    5. Go to the "Enhancements" tab and check "Disable all enhancements."

Use the Troubleshooter

  • Run the Audio Troubleshooter:
    1. In the Sound settings, scroll down to "Troubleshoot" under both the "Output" and "Input" sections.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Check for Third-Party Software

  • Third-Party Software:
    1. Sometimes, third-party audio software (like Realtek HD Audio Manager, Dolby Atmos, etc.) can interfere with sound settings. Check if any such software is installed and disable any unnecessary enhancements or features.

BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Check BIOS/UEFI:
    1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, Del, or another key during startup).
    2. Look for any audio settings that might be enabled or disabled improperly.

Hardware Check

  • Physical Issues:
    1. Check if your headphones or speakers are causing the echo by testing with a different set.
    2. Ensure that your microphone isn't too close to your speakers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
