Hi @Kantras, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @senan6806, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

As you mentioned you still have issues after trying out the steps.

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

Splendid analysis and remarkable patience shown. It is immensely appreciated.

Please try few steps mentioned below.

If the HDMI device is not set as default device, you cannot hear the sound from HDMI output. Follow steps below to set the HDMI device as Default Device:

1) Right-click on sound volume icon in the lower right corner of Windows. A context menu will pop up.
2) Click Playback devices.
3) In the Playback tab, select Digital Output Device or HDMI option. Click Set Default and click OK. Then the HDMI sound output will be set as default.
If you do not see the Digital Output Device or HDMI option in the Playback tab, right click on the blank place, then click Show disconnected devices and Show disabled devices on the context menu. Then set it as default device.

Open the Device Manager in Windows 10.
Navigate to Sound, video, and game controllers.
Now connect your PC to TV using HDMI connection.
This will show some “HDMI Audio” related driver under the above section.
Now right-click that item and UNINSTALL it.
Now right-click Sound, video, and game controllers and select “Scan for hardware changes“.
This will install a typical driver which is something like this – “Device with HDMI AUDIO OUTPUT SUPPORT”.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

• Control Panel, Sound, Manage Audio Devices
• The Soundbox will pop up.
• On the playback tab, you should see two icons. One for your laptop speakers, one for the external monitor/TV.
• Double click on the Laptop speakers, then click "Set Default" button on the bottom.
• The Laptop Speakers will be "Checked".
• Select OK and exit.

Hi @Senan6806,

I've done my best to attempt that solution before posting to the forum, but it's not applicable to my (and Kantras's) situation. Kantras is SPOT ON about the issue and how it differs from the solution you recommended -- I don't think I could have explained it better myself.

I've used my AIO computer as my for gaming from my console from the moment I got it. Evertyhing worked just fine until last week (or whenever it was I originally posted). Now, the expected audio stays silent while in HDMI display mode. the only exception is when i'm trying to turn up the volume on the gaming console, where it makes a chime sound -- i mention this detail because i find it to be one of the weirdest or most interesting aspects of this issue. this issues persisted even when uninstalling my audio drivers, and being unable to play any sounds on my desktop at all.

What's also interesting, is that if something i playing on desktop mode, the sounds from the desktop will still play on while in HDMI mode, but do so at a louder volume.

everything works perfectly fine when plugging the same HDMI cord into a different monitor/TV, and changing none of my console settings.

I hope this helps.

Hi MrRobot,

Part of the issue here is that the Digital output device, or HDMI audio, is not an option to select. This is what I see, and I presume it's the same kind of situation for Kantras (the blank spot below "headset" or "headphones" is because I erased my real name):

I am trying to play my game console on the AIO monitor, and in order to do that, I switch it to HDMI display mode:

It's after switching to HDMI input that the problems arise.

I hope these screenshots help the HP team to find solutions.

It's as if the internal audio routing is somehow broken; what I would guess should be happening is that, when the button is pressed to switch from "Mode: PC" to "Mode: Monitor", it's supposed to switch over from outputting the audio from the AIO and use the audio being provided by HDMI instead, only it's not doing that

@Moe050, @Kantras, Thaks for your quick response and time again.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

Splendid analysis and remarkable patience shown. It is immensely appreciated.

As you mentioned when you connect the PS4 using an HDMI in connection on your PC. You don't get any audio.

It looks like a graphics driver issue, uninstall the graphics driver from the device manager and install the driver using HP support assistant.

If the issue still persists try performing a push button reset on your PC.

Refer this article to know more information about performing a push button reset. Click Here

Anticipating part of your request, I've done a full reset, have also uninstalled all graphics and audio drivers, then reinstalled them ( the Support Assistant kept saying that there were no waiting updates, so I was forced to go to the support site directly, download the relevant packages for my model, and then install them by hand ), then turned off everything, disconnected it all, waited a minute, reassembled everything, turned on the console and the PC and tested again. No change; no audio can be heard from the console. I even made sure to try changing the volume, in case it was muted somehow, and no change. I also tried another test; if audio is playing on the PC, and I press the button to switch from "Mode: PC" to "Mode: Monitor", so that the console would be displayed on the screen, the audio from the PC mode is still playing and is actually louder, as if it didn't switch audio source from the PC to the HDMI port.

@Kantras, Thanks for your response again.

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

And as we have exhausted with the steps.

I would share you few details through a private message regarding the service options for your PC.

Have a blessed day ahead!

Take Care! 🙂

@kantras, are you using a gaming console too? If it’s a PS4, when you turned up the volume on & from the console, did it make the chime noise it regularly does? —because that’s what might will do.

i def agree that it seems like whatever is supposed to change (audio-control wise) when switching to hdmi display mode, just isn’t changing properly.

@Moe050, I've tried a console, desktop PC and a cable settop box - all are exhibiting the same symptoms.

Good news - after updating to the latest Realtek audio driver (6.0.1.8551 Rev.A) , I am now getting audio from thr console.
