Hello, randomly my audio's quality significantly decreased. I'm thinking its because Nvidia automatically downloaded their HD audio but when I try to uninstall it and install Realtek HD audio it just automatically converts to Nvidia's. I've tried different headsets and they all sound the same so this must be the issue. Any solutions on how to make it not convert to Nvidia's HD audio?

Hi @5hama,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing a conflict between your audio drivers.

Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Uninstall Nvidia HD Audio Driver:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it.
  • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
  • Right-click on Nvidia High Definition Audio and select Uninstall device. Check the box to delete the driver software if prompted.
  • Restart your computer to complete the uninstallation.

Reinstall Realtek HD Audio Driver:

  • Download the latest Realtek HD Audio driver from the Realtek website.
  • Install the driver and restart your computer if needed.

Set Default Audio Device:

  • Right-click the sound icon in the system tray and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Playback tab, right-click on your preferred audio device (Realtek), and select Set as Default Device.
  • Click OK to apply the changes.

Disable Nvidia HD Audio in Device Manager:

  • If Nvidia HD Audio reappears, return to Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers again.
  • Right-click on Nvidia High Definition Audio and select Disable device.

Check for Driver Conflicts:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers and make sure only your preferred audio device (Realtek) is listed.
  • If Nvidia HD Audio is still showing up, make sure it's disabled or uninstalled.

Update Windows:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Sometimes a Windows update can resolve driver conflicts.

Check for Additional Software:

  • Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with audio drivers. Ensure that no other audio management software is overriding your settings.

Rollback or Reinstall Nvidia Graphics Driver:

  • Sometimes, reinstalling or rolling back the Nvidia graphics driver can help resolve driver conflicts. To do this, go to Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click on your Nvidia card, and select Properties. In the Driver tab, you can either roll back to a previous version or uninstall and reinstall the driver from the Nvidia website.
