Hello everyone. recently purchased this computer. As soon as I installed it, I noticed I had audio through my headphones, but not through the computer itself. I had to install the audio driver.

each time there's a windows update, I lose it. this time, I lost 4 hours, and was not able to fix the problem.

And the weirdest thing is that if I use the same USB slot (that I use for my headphones and this works) to plug external speakers, they don't work either. There are currently 3 audio drivers on the HP site, I tried the 3 of them, none is working.

I have tried everything, all the troubleshooting etc. When I have gone through all the options, they end up saying: sorry we can't help you.

Hi @Emma952,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating audio driver issue on your HP All-in-One with Windows 11. Here are a few steps you can try to address the problem.

Uninstall and Reinstall Audio Drivers:

  • Uninstall Drivers: Go to Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu). Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section. Right-click on your audio device and select Uninstall device. Make sure to check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device.
  • Reinstall Drivers: After uninstalling, restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the default audio driver. If not, you can manually download and install the latest driver from the HP website.

Check Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes Windows updates can affect drivers. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any pending updates. Install them if available, as they might include fixes for your issue.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter to see if it can detect and fix any issues.

Check Default Playback Device:

  • Right-click the Sound icon in the taskbar and select Open Sound settings. Under Advanced sound options, ensure that the correct playback device (speakers) is set as the default.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS and chipset drivers can resolve hardware-related issues. Visit the HP support site and download the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your model.

Check Audio Settings:

  • Ensure that your audio settings are correctly configured. Go to Settings > System > Sound and ensure that the correct output device is selected and the volume levels are adjusted properly.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Ensure no other software is interfering with your audio settings. Sometimes third-party audio software or utilities can conflict with the default drivers.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started after a recent change or update, you might consider performing a system restore to a point before the issue began. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Alden4. Alas, all the steps you describe  fit in the sentence I wrote " have tried everything, all the troubleshooting etc". I had gone through absolutely all the steps you describe, including the BIOS! to no avail.

I didn't check here for a while, because at one point, there was w Windows update, and miraculously, without changing anything on my side, I got that sound in the computer speakers.

Alas, there was another update a few days ago, and the sound is gone again. So there's definitely a major windows/HP issue here. I don't have the money to rebuy a new computer now, so I am stuck with this for years, and can no longer watch things with my husband, because only one of us will have sound. My next computer will not be HP!
