Briefly, audio worked well until about 14:30 local U.K. Wed 01.04.2026.

There was then a Windows update & audio failed to work following that.

On Wed 01.04.2026 evening, Microsoft attempted to help resolve it. But it was not successful.

On Thu 02.04.2026, I went online with HP to look for a resolution. There was an HP bios update. but that still wasn't successful, telling me that it's HP problem.

Today Fri 03.04.206, I was back on with MS who decided to to delete & then re-install Windows 11 Pro. But that didn't resolve anything.

MS suggested I contact HP for updated Intel drivers.

Is there a simple solution which doesn't have me sitting in front of a useless p.c. for over 10 hrs doing updates & remote diagnostics over last 3 days?.

Which model? Dis you try install audio driver or running troubleshooting?

HP ProDesk 400. Yes, I tried all that, including updating drivers via Device manager.

Uninstall audio driver from device manage then restart your laptop check if windows fix audio. To do this, Right-click Start and select Device Manager. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers," right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio), choose Uninstall device, check "Delete the driver software for this device" if available, and confirm.

Restart your PC afterward, Windows may reinstall a generic driver automatically.

If it doesn't then download and install this driver- https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp111001-111500/sp111024.exe

Yes, I tried all that. And so did HP. And Microsoft as it was just after a Windows update about 7 days ago.

And just done so again.

No luck, again.

I can hear a much-reduced volume audio sound coming from the unit itself but it isn't the audio unit & its sound volume can't be controlled.

Well, how about that? I eventually found a link to revert to the previous audio driver - which was working well enough up 'til about 31.03.2026 - and I have installed that.

HI, similar problem. No audio from jack sockets, occasional useless squark from only the on-board speaker if forced to use the generic windows audio driver (on re-boot, windows revert to driver that doesn't work!)

Can you detail the previous driver details that worked for you?

Thanks Jerry.
