Hello,

My laptop recently started to make beeping noises last night. It made three loud high pitch beeps before I turned off my laptop. This morning I powered on my laptop and it started making beeping noises again. After a few couple beeps and a pause, it starting beeping again nonstop. The sound continued until I plugged in my headphones. The beep sound would now just beep here and there as long as my headphones were plugged in. However, if I plug my headphones out, it would return to making a long never-ending beep sound. I don't know what wrong with my laptop as it just happened out of nowhere and I want it to stop beeping. Thank you for any help!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

I believe this didn't happen after any window or software update. I haven't made any hardware/software changes. The beeps have started when I closed my laptop and wasn't using it. It started to beep out of nowhere as it was the first time it happened to me. I did try to BIOS default you have suggested but my laptop is still beeping. I didn't perform a hard reset but I did a factory reset instead. I'm not sure if there's a difference but I found that the factory reset didn't help either. The beeps sound seems to occur if I do something with the laptop. For example, after the annoying constant beeps, it would beep when I plug out my headphones, when I turn on or off my laptop, and etc. I haven't had my laptop for long as it only has been a year. The beeps are still occurring and I wish it would stop.

Since you have already tried most of the troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue and as we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now. I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out.
