I have an HP Pavilion Desktop 590-p0054.  The action that Ben Koffman describes is exactly what's happening with my PC.  It's an annoying three-tone sound that always plays twice in succession when the PC goes to sleep.  The suggestion of running the Support Assistant is not a great one; my PC is up-to-date on everything yet I still get the sound once it goes to sleep and the screen goes dark.

@ABBAbear,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's try these steps here:

Enter BIOS by pressing F10 during boot

Go to >Configuration>Beep and Alarm

Then set Power control beep to [Disabled]

Restart the computer and check.

If the issue persists, I would recommend you try these steps here:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device. Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers  Please select the country and type the product#  of the computer. Then select the correct operating system and follow the on-screen instructions to do it.

Now check if the issue gets fixed.

If it continues, try these steps:

Then perform these steps to see if it gets resolved:

I have one additional observation to the comment from ABBAbear about the beeping or booping sound with my Pavilion 595-p0084, for which I have found no remedy.  This appears to be the same sound as when unpluggng an external device (DVD drive, memory stick, etc) from a USB port.  Perhaps this may give someone a clue as to what is happening.
