Suddenly my bluetooth went away. It is not in device manager. The scan I ran said it couldn't be found. When I go to bluetooth it shows the items paired but it says not connected and is grayed out so you can't do anything. How do I get my bluetooth back?

Hi @martic329

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If your Bluetooth has suddenly disappeared from the Device Manager and is not connecting to paired items, you can follow these steps to try to resolve the issue:

Check Device Manager Again:

  1. Search for and open Device Manager on your Windows computer.
  2. Expand the 'Network adapters' section and look for a Bluetooth adapter.
  3. If it's not listed, make sure to check the 'View > Show hidden devices' option in Device Manager.

Restart Bluetooth Support Service:

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find 'Bluetooth Support Service'.
  3. Right-click it and select 'Restart'. If it’s not running, click 'Start'. Ensure the Startup type is set to 'Automatic'.

Update Bluetooth Driver:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. If Bluetooth is listed, right-click your Bluetooth device and select 'Update driver'.
  3. Select 'Search automatically for updated driver software'.

Uninstall Driver and Reinstall:

  1. If Bluetooth is listed under Device Manager, right-click and select 'Uninstall device'.
  2. Restart your computer, which should automatically reinstall the Bluetooth driver.

Check BIOS Settings:

  1. Restart your PC and enter BIOS Setup (usually by pressing F10, F2, F12, or Del during boot).
  2. Check if there’s an option for enabling/disabling Bluetooth.

Check for Windows Updates:

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  2. Install any optional updates that might be related to Bluetooth.

it means your bluetooth adapter either crashed, got disabled or driver disappeared. You can try this order to resolve the issue below.

  • Full shutdown reset
  • Show hidden devices
  • Reinstall driver
