I have had many issues with this product. I recently exchanged this product for another one, but ended up getting one with the same problem as the first. Whenever the audio is turned on, there is a buzzing noise that does not go away.

@meghangoolsby,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand you are having issues with the buzzing noise when audio is ON. Don't worry we'll work together to help you with this.

Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you checked if the noise is audible when connected to a headphone

Have you tried to update the Bios?

Have you tried to update the drivers either using Windows update or using HP Support Assistant?

Have you tried to run any test on Audio from F2?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let's start off by updating the Bios, Chipset and Audio drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Once done, restart the computer and check for the crackling noise.

Alternatively, you can connect a Headphone and check for the buzzing noise.

If the issue persists, then I would suggest here is to run a test on the Audio from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  • The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

  • Select component tests.

List of the Component tests

  • Please initiate a test on the Audio - The Audio Playback Test checks your system to make sure the audio device is functioning properly. During the test, a few music notes are played in sequence and then repeated. This test takes 1 minute to complete. Click Audio, then click Run once. Choose either the speakers or the headphones. When asked, enter the number of notes you heard.

If the buzzing noise appears during the test then it indicates towards a hardware issue and you may have to contact our HP phone support to check the available repair options. However, if the hardware test passes on the audio then I suggest you to follow the steps from the HP audio troubleshooter guide that helps in fixing such sound issues.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
