I have connected a wireless speaker to my HP desktop console. The speaker works but it is not getting power to recharge the battery from the console. The speaker did not come with a power cord, so I'm assuming it should get its power from the console. I have plugged it into the front. What am I doing wrong? I have tried HP Assistant, but I don't get an answer to my question.

Hi @Sandy-Mc

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details. Based on your description and similar cases, here’s what’s likely happening:

Why Your Wireless Speaker Isn’t Charging from the HP Desktop

Most wireless speakers—even those that connect via USB—require a dedicated power source for charging. HP desktop USB ports, especially front-facing ones, often provide limited power output (typically 0.5A), which may not be sufficient to charge certain speakers. Additionally:

  • Some speakers are designed to only charge via wall adapters or high-power USB ports.
  • If the speaker lacks a dedicated charging cable, it may rely on a specific USB-C or micro-USB cable rated for power delivery.

What You Can Try

1. Use a Rear USB Port

  • Rear USB ports on HP desktops often provide higher power output than front ports.
  • Try connecting the speaker to a rear USB 3.0 port (usually marked with blue).

2. Use a Powered USB Hub

  • A powered USB hub with its own AC adapter can supply consistent charging current.
  • This bypasses the desktop’s limited power delivery.

3. Check the Speaker’s Charging Requirements

  • Refer to the speaker’s manual or manufacturer website to confirm:
    • Required voltage and amperage
    • Supported charging methods (USB-A, USB-C, wall adapter)

4. Try a Universal Charging Cable

  • If the speaker uses USB-C or micro-USB, try a high-quality cable rated for charging.
  • Some data-only cables won’t deliver power.

To help you better, could you please provide the following:

What is the brand and model of your wireless speaker?
(e.g., JBL Flip 5, Bose SoundLink Mini, etc.)

What is the model of your HP desktop console?
(e.g., HP Pavilion Desktop TP01, HP Envy TE01, etc.)

With those details, I can give you the exact steps to troubleshoot the power issue.
