OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000i (392G1AV)

Hello, since I bought my computer,
I have had a problem with sound, video and external sound card. When playing on Youtube, sometimes the video stops (not always) and the sound drops out for a second. The sound card turns off and on again. This problem also occurs when playing a video and opening a file, website...
The sound card is external with USB power (I also tried the power supply, but without success). No problem with the previous computer with W10.
The drivers are up to date, including the USB interface.
I updated the computer to W11 immediately after purchase.
Has anyone had similar experiences?
Where could the problem be? In the USB power supply (too many USB devices?)
W11? Why does the video usually also stop?

Addition - the internal sound has had a bug from the beginning, namely that when playing
more demanding games on graphics, the sound whistles, the intensity depends on the load on the graphics card. The whistle also occurs when using a mouse that moves across the monitor surface.

Thanks in advance for your opinions

I own an HP OMEN 40L, desktop GT21..., RTX 3070

Sounds like your computer's trying to audition for a new role: "The Phantom of the Desktop." A little whistle here, a sound dropout there—it's like your machine has a flair for drama 😁. Let me guess, when you move the mouse, it's choreographed to a symphony of GPU whistles?

But in all seriousness, you've got quite the mystery on your hands.
Thanks for reaching out to share your experience! We're excited to help you uncover the cause of the issue and work toward a solution.

1. USB Power Issues

  •  Possible Cause: Your external sound card might not be getting stable power through USB, especially if multiple USB devices are connected.1. Test Different Ports: Use different USB ports, preferably directly on the motherboard (back of the case), as front panel ports might provide less stable power.
    2. Disconnect Other Devices: Disconnect unnecessary USB devices to reduce the power draw.
    3. Test with External Power: If the sound card has an option for external power, ensure you're using a stable power adapter.

2. Windows 11 Optimization

  1. Update Windows: Ensure you’re running the latest updates for Windows 11.
  2. Reinstall Drivers:
    • Uninstall the USB sound card drivers completely. Click here (Select your OS and version)image.png
    • Reinstall the latest drivers from the sound card manufacturer.
  3. Adjust USB Power Settings:
    • Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Right-click each USB Root Hub > Properties > Power Management.
    • Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

3. Graphics Card and System Load

  • Possible Cause: High GPU load during gaming could be causing EMI or resource contention affecting the sound.
  1. Update GPU Drivers: Download and install the latest drivers by clicking here.
  2. Limit GPU Performance:
    • Use NVIDIA Control Panel to limit frame rates or enable Vertical Sync.
  3. Separate Components: Ensure the sound card and GPU are not physically close inside the case to reduce interference.

4. USB Controller or Power Supply Unit (PSU)

  • Possible Cause: USB controller instability or an underpowered PSU may cause device resets.

  1. Check Power Supply: Verify the PSU wattage (your setup with RTX 3070 ideally needs a 750W+ PSU).
  2. Add a Powered USB Hub: Use a powered USB hub to provide stable power to the external sound card.

5. Internal Sound Whistling

  • Possible Cause: This might result from coil whine or interference caused by high GPU/mouse activity.

  1. Change Audio Settings: Switch to a different sound quality (e.g., 16-bit, 44100 Hz) in the Sound Control Panel > Playback Devices > Properties > Advanced.
  2. Update Realtek Drivers: If your system uses Realtek audio, update its drivers.
  3. Enable Shielding: Consider using shielded cables and devices to reduce interference.

6. BIOS Settings

  • Possible Cause: Some USB settings in the BIOS might cause instability.

  1. Update BIOS: Check for the latest BIOS version on HP's support page for your OMEN 40L.
  2. Adjust BIOS Settings:
    • Disable “USB selective suspend” if available.
    • Enable “Legacy USB Support.”

7. System Monitoring

  • Possible Cause: Overheating or resource bottlenecks might contribute.
  1. Check resource usage in Task Manager when the issue occurs.

Take care and have an amazing day!
