Tried different bluetooth and wired for audio and mic. on HP Pavillion DeskTop TP01. Microphone has poor quality and people comment that I sound like I'm speaking in a box regardless of which product I try. Speaker quality is good. What would be the best audio (speaker) and Microphone combo to have good quality web meetings? Can combine with webcam as an option. thanks

Hi @Cheesegrit ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing difficulty with the external microphone quality on your HP Pavilion Desktop TP01, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Check the Microphone:
- Ensure that the external microphone is in good working condition. Test it on another device if possible to rule out any issues with the microphone itself.
Connection:
- Make sure the external microphone is securely connected to the correct port on your desktop. Some desktops have separate ports for headphones and microphones, while others have a combined audio jack. Ensure you are using the correct one.
Drivers:
- Update your audio drivers. Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause microphone issues. Visit the official HP support website, enter your desktop model, and download the latest audio drivers for your system.
Windows Sound Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under the "Input" section, make sure the correct microphone is selected.
- Test your microphone by speaking into it, and observe the input level indicators to ensure it's picking up sound.
Microphone Privacy Settings:
- In Windows 10, go to "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Microphone."
- Ensure that the "Allow apps to access your microphone" toggle is turned on.
- Check individual app settings to make sure the microphone is allowed for specific applications.
Sound Control Panel:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under "Related settings," click on "Sound control panel."
- In the Sound window, go to the "Recording" tab. Make sure your external microphone is set as the default recording device.
Noise Suppression and Enhancements:
- In the Sound control panel, find your microphone, right-click on it, and go to "Properties."
- Under the "Enhancements" tab, try disabling or enabling options like "Noise suppression" and "Acoustic Echo Cancellation" to see if it improves the microphone quality.
Test in Another Application:
- Test the microphone in different applications (e.g., Skype, Zoom, or a voice recorder app) to see if the issue persists across multiple programs. This can help identify whether the problem is specific to one application.
Update Windows:
- Ensure that your operating system is up to date by installing the latest Windows updates.
BIOS Update:
- Check the HP support website for your desktop model to see if there are any BIOS updates available. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve hardware-related issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
