I have a new HP Omen desktop (OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-2000i) that shipped with windows 11. I made a second partition and installed Windows 10 on it, because I have a couple applications that only work in Windows 10. I used the official Microsoft Media Creation Tool to obtain Windows 10 and install it. Unfortunately, when it installs, it doesn't include drivers for Wifi or audio. I was able to use an ethernet cord to connect to the internet, use Windows update, and somehow got it to update drivers to have Wifi--but no audio.
I looked on HP's website under my specific computer, and it does not have any drivers for Windows 11, since it only ships with Windows 10. Other things I tried:
- I installed the Intel chipset, but that didn't work.
- I tried installing Realtek, but that also didn't do anything.
- In Device Manager, I installed "HD Audio Driver for Display Audio" through "add legacy hardware," but that didn't do anything either.
- When I go to the Sound control panel, I see "NVIDIA Output" four times, so I found an old monitor that has speakers, and this DID play sound; there is no sound input (microphone) capability though, which is also what I need. Plus, it's not my monitor, so that isn't a good long-term solution either.
In Device Manager under "Other devices," "Multimedia Audio Controller" has a yellow triangle, saying that it isn't installed; I have tried to uninstall and reinstall/update numerous times, but that hasn't been successful.
I've tried installing Windows 10 in a virtual machine to run the apps, but that is so ridiculously slow that it didn't work.
Any ideas of how I can create a Windows 10 partition on my machine that actually will let me connect to the internet and have audio capabilities? Or is that simply not possible, since the machine and motherboard are just too new? As I said, I can get audio using HDMI through the video card, but that's not a good solution and doesn't let me use a microphone.

At this point, I would do a google search by that hardware ID and see what turns up.
I found this post for example with some info:
Realtek Audio Requires further installation - Microsoft Community
The Microsoft Update Catalog supposedly has one as it turned up in my search, but the drivers are for W11.
You can try manually installing that one because sometimes the W11 drivers will work on W10 too.

I could not find any W10 drivers for the previous two GT22- model series (0000i and 1000i).
They all came with W11.
So, I don't know if you will be able to find the right W10 driver for your PC's audio chip, but I have posted the link to a HP business desktop (600 G9) which has W10 driver support, since it is a business class PC.
The 600 G9 model series supports the Intel 12th, and 13th generation core processors.

If that driver doesn't work, please post the hardware ID for the Multimedia Audio controller that needs the driver.
That's why the sound isn't working.

Thank you again for trying to help. Unfortunately, that driver didn't work (it says it installed, but there is still a yellow exclamation point next to the Multimedia Audio Controller, even after restarting). I forgot to mention I had tried to do the same thing with Realtek drivers last night, searching for a different computer on the HP driver site that supported Windows 10.
The Hardware IDs for the Multimedia Audio Controller listed are:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7A50&SUBSYS_8A96103C&REV_11
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7A50&SUBSYS_8A96103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7A50&CC_040100

In the "Device Status" window, it says:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There are no compatible drivers for this device.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

See if this works:
I found a driver with the hardware ID you posted on the Microsoft Update Catalog website (2nd one on list).
You are going to have to manually install the driver.
First, download and save the 2nd file from the link above.
Then download and save this free file utility. The 1st file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.
After you install 7-Zip, right click on the Microsoft driver cabinet file you saved.
Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.
Have 7-zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into that long folder name. Ignore any of the messages generated during the extraction process.
After the driver folder has been created, go to the device manager.
Click on the Multimedia audio controller needing the driver.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.
Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked and hopefully the driver will install.
Then restart the PC.
Here is a partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file that shows driver support for the hardware ID you posted:

Well, it seems like it made a little progress. Now instead of the generic sounding "Multimedia Audio Controller," that has been replaced with "Intel High Definition Audio," but also with a yellow exclamation point. Under "Sound, video and game controllers," there is now an entry for Intel Smart Sound Technology for USB audio.
Still no audio though.
The Hardware IDs for that new Intel driver are:

OK, try manually installing the driver from the device manager for the INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_1220 device by browsing to the driver folder that was created when you ran the Realtek driver I gave you from the 600 G9.
After you ran the driver, it created a folder in C:\SWSetup\sp152390.
Browse to that folder and hopefully the ID for that device will be in that folder.
The problem is there are so many setup information files inside the Realtek audio driver folder, I simply do not have the time or patience to go through every one to see if it has support for that ID, but I am sure it exists in one of the W10 Realtek Audio driver folders if not more than one.
If think if you can get that device to install you might be able to get the audio to work.

Looking in that directory, I was able to find "SEAPODAT.INTELAUDIO.FUNC_01-VEN_10EC-DEV_1220." (this is in C:\SWSetup\SP152390\src\driver\SRext\SEAPO64Ext\). But the only things in that directory are CHIDMAP.bin, SSIDMAP.bin, a text file called 150.Tower and then a directory called 150, which has numerous sub-directories, all of which only contain a .bin file. I tried having Device Manager use that to update the driver, but there isn't anything to use there.
