Hi @oldoneinaz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The audio card in an HP Envy desktop with a 13th generation Intel i7 processor is typically integrated into the motherboard. However, you can add or replace the audio capabilities by installing a dedicated sound card. Here’s what you need to know:
Checking Compatibility
Internal Sound Card:
- PCIe Slot Availability: Ensure that your desktop has an available PCIe slot. Most modern desktops do have these slots available.
- Space and Clearance: Ensure there is enough physical space inside the case to accommodate a new sound card.
External Sound Card:
- USB Ports: If you prefer an external solution, you can use a USB sound card which connects to your desktop via a USB port.
Steps to Install an Internal Sound Card
Purchase a Compatible Sound Card:
- Sound Blaster Products: Many Sound Blaster products are available that should be compatible with your desktop, such as the Sound Blaster Audigy or Sound BlasterX series.
Prepare Your Desktop:
- Power Down and Unplug: Ensure the computer is powered down and unplugged from the wall.
- Open the Case: Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the side panel in place and open the case.
Locate an Available PCIe Slot:
- Identify a Free Slot: Find an available PCIe slot on the motherboard where the sound card will be installed.
Install the Sound Card:
- Remove Slot Cover: Remove the corresponding slot cover from the back of the case.
- Insert the Sound Card: Gently insert the sound card into the PCIe slot, ensuring it is seated firmly.
- Secure the Card: Use a screw to secure the card to the case.
Close the Case and Power On:
- Reassemble: Replace the side panel and secure it with screws.
- Reconnect and Power On: Plug the computer back in and power it on.
Install Drivers:
- Driver Installation: Install the drivers for the new sound card. These are usually available on the manufacturer’s website or come on a CD with the sound card.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
