Front Audio port doesnt work, rear one does

I am trying to use headphones.  When plugged into the audio port on the rear of the tower, they work fine.  When plugged into the front audio port they do not work.  It is a standard 3 pin jack for listening only (no microphone)  Any ideas?

Check audio cable connection from motherboard to front panel. No cable, no connection, no sound ...
