My monitor is connected using the HDMI input via Mini DisplayPort® or Thunderbolt™
connector on my Lenovo W540 mobile workstation laptop. All drivers and updates are current in the laptop.
The audio output fails upon wake from sleep, connect & boot system and disconnect and reconnect of the display.
I have tried numerous times to fix the issue. So far the only way to regain the audio out is a re-boot of the machine.
Is there something I'm missing in my quest to have easy access to my audio?
If anyone can offer suggestions I would appreciate it!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Have you tried connecting the display without docking station?
- Have you tried with a different computer or device?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
- Step 1: Use the correct HDMI cable for your HDMI device
- Step 2: Select HDMI sound output as the default audio device
- Step 3: Run the Audio Check in HP Support Assistant
- Step 4: Use the Windows Sound troubleshooter
Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01186408 to complete the troubleshooting steps.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake,
Well I believe I have tried everything you have suggested without success. The Audio Check in HP Support Assistant was not available as an option for my machine. The only way sound and audio resumes is by rebooting the machine. I did test the issue on an identical Lenovo W540 and it didn't seem to have the same fault, although I didn't do any over night sleep test.
Thanks for your help, I will continue to try other fixes and continue to restart my machine for the time being.
