I would be grateful if anyone could cast some light on this computer's sound issue:
Internal sound device to built-in speakers in this computer is Synaptics High Definition Audio.
It could be reactivated by opening Device Manager going down to Sound and removing the Synaptics entry plus ticking remove driver files then rebooting.
This will work for the current login session. Of course it should not need re-doing every restart power off but so far this appears to be necessary
Running HP Diagnostics at startup shows no hardware problem with sound, all passed.
Trying to find a HP Synaptics sound driver for this computer had no luck. Windows Update claims the driver installed is the correct one.
Plugging speakers into the USB port was no problem, sound worked.

I’ve seen this happen when Windows keeps reinstalling a generic Synaptics driver instead of the right HP one.

Try this:

In Device Manager → Sound, right-click Synaptics High Definition Audio → Update driver → Browse my computer → Let me pick from a list.

Choose High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft) — it’s often more stable.

Then turn off auto driver updates:
Control Panel → System → Hardware → Device Installation Settings → No.

That usually stops the driver from resetting after every restart.
If it still happens, try installing the latest HP audio driver (Conexant or Realtek) from HP’s support page — newer ones replaced the Synaptics version.
