The post indicates Windows 10.  Did some new update cause this?  Check in Device Manager on the Audio driver.

Check  under the "Audio inputs and outputs" and also "Sound, video and game controllers" to see if one or more devices need a new driver.  If there are needs in Device Manager, find the Hardware ID for the device and then search for the new driver using the Hardware ID.  Post back with details if you need help.
