Hi @SarahCalla

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If the internal microphone on your HP Envy 17-inch laptop is not working specifically with Zoom, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Microphone Settings in Windows

Ensure Microphone Access:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  • Make sure the "Allow apps to access your microphone" option is enabled.

Set Microphone as Default Device:

  • Right-click the sound icon in your system tray and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Recording tab.
  • Ensure your internal microphone is set as the default device.

Check Sound Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Under "Input", ensure that your internal microphone is selected.

Configure Microphone in Zoom

Access Zoom Audio Settings:

  • Open Zoom and go to Settings.
  • Select Audio from the sidebar.

Select Correct Microphone:

  • In the "Microphone" section, ensure your internal microphone is selected.

Check Input Level:

  • Speak into the microphone and see if the input level moves. Adjust input volume if necessary.

Audio Troubleshooting:

  • You can use Zoom's test option to check if the microphone is working within the app, accessible in the audio settings.

Update Drivers

  1. Check for Driver Updates:
    • Go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right-click on your audio driver and select "Update Driver".
    • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".

Additional Steps

Application Permissions:

  • Verify that Zoom has permission to access the microphone in the app settings.

Zoom Application Update:

  • Ensure you are using the latest version of Zoom as provided by the Zoom website or app store.

Let me know if Zoom still refuses to cooperate—I can walk you through a clean reinstall if needed.

You’ve got the right instincts, and we’re close to cracking this.
