Hi @Ollie79

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The HP Tone Control 2.x utility is no longer listed on the current HP driver library, but the last available package can still be downloaded from trusted archives.

Here is the verified source you can use:

Important notes before installation

  • Compatibility: This utility was originally designed for HP ENVY and Pavilion notebooks running Windows 7. It provides bass/treble adjustment and Beats Audio support.
  • Windows 10/11 use: While the installer may run, functionality is not guaranteed on modern systems. If installed on newer versions, it may not integrate fully with the audio driver stack.
  • Alternative approach: If your system uses Realtek audio, the latest Realtek driver package from HP’s driver page often includes equalizer and tone control features within the audio console. You can check your model’s driver page here: HP Drivers and Software.

Suggested next steps

  1. Check your model’s driver page: Enter your product number on HP’s support site and look under “Audio” or “Software – Multimedia.” If Tone Control is not listed, use the Realtek audio console included in the driver package.
  2. Install the archived utility cautiously: If you decide to use the Softpedia package, install it on a supported OS version (Windows 7/8). On newer systems, test functionality carefully.
  3. Use HP App for diagnostics: The HP App includes Diagnose & Fix which can confirm whether your audio drivers are functioning correctly and may provide modern alternatives to Tone Control.

In short, the Tone Control 2.x utility is archived and not actively maintained, but you can still download it from the verified Softpedia link above. For modern HP laptops, the Realtek audio driver package is the best way to access tone and equalizer features.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
