Microsoft Windows 11

I just opened my new HP computer and after I finished setting up I plugged in to see if my headphones worked and it shows nothing is plugged when when they are. I have tried 3 different pair of headphones all that work on my old computer and it doesnt recognize any of them. I updated all the drives and it shows all are up to date. I went into device manager and uninstalled  realtek then reinstalled and restarted but it didnt help. There's not even a option to set as default for my headphones, I do get sound though the speakers so I have no clue what this could be since the computer is brand new. The checkmarks on show disabled devices is also checked.

I have seen this on the forum before.  I believe the problem to be in the headphone jack/plug.  It seems there are at least two different styles/types involved.  Many headphones have a jack with more than two bands that make the connections.  The older style used only the tip and ring.  Then when stereo came along there was an added ring to allow for the extra audio channel.  So tip and two rings.  Then along came stereo headsets with a mic added, which required an additional ring.  All of these use what looks like the typical headphone jack from the outside.  It has nothing to do with Windows versions per se.  The problem happens when a headphone jack and the plug do not match.

In order to find out what the new HP computer has vs the headphone, look up the specs on the HP site to see which jack is being used to output the audio, then match that type with the headphones.
