HP ENVY Laptop PC 17-ce2055cl

The board dropdown will not allow me to change to notebook audio. When is HP going to make updated drivers available so laptop speakers will work? It is so frustrating that the correct Intel Smart Sound Technology driver is nowhere to be found.

Hi @nmsi

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble with the Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers on your HP laptop with Windows 11, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

1. Update Windows

  • Ensure your Windows 11 is fully updated. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any pending updates.

2. Check HP Support Website

  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop model. Check if there are updated audio drivers available for Windows 11.

3. Use Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select it).
  • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
  • Right-click on the Intel Smart Sound Technology driver and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Roll Back Driver

  • If the issue started after a recent update, you can try rolling back the driver:
    • In Device Manager, right-click the Intel Smart Sound Technology driver, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.

5. Reinstall the Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click the Intel Smart Sound Technology driver and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

6. Download Intel Driver & Support Assistant

  • Download the Intel Driver & Support Assistant. This tool can automatically detect and update your Intel drivers.

7. Check Audio Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound and ensure that the correct output device is selected.
  • Check for any enhancements or settings that may affect playback.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried many suggestions for troubleshooting and found an article that this is a known issue where HP and Intel need to put their heads together to write an updated driver.

There have no updates whatsoever and I was forced to spend my hard-earned money on a bluetooth speaker in order to hear anything from my latop.

How is that fair or acceptable?
