Last night l lost Audio on from my on-device laptop speakers, when l checked Device Manager. The intel Management Engine Interface had a Code 43 error, and the Intel Smart Sound Technology SST OED had a code 10 error. i tried uninstalling the drivers and installing new ones but it only worked momentarily, and the errors would come back immediately after installing the drivers. i thought maybe it was a windows issue, so l reset the computer and did a reinstall of windows, but nothing changed. Now l am considering updating the bios but its looking bleak.

Hi @bp_263
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining everything so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating when audio just vanishes and the usual fixes don’t stick.
You’ve already done a lot of smart troubleshooting, so let’s build on that and try a few deeper steps to help restore your sound. 🔊💻
🧠 What Those Errors Mean
- Code 43 (Intel Management Engine Interface): Usually points to a driver or firmware conflict.
- Code 10 (Intel Smart Sound Technology SST OED): Indicates the device failed to start—often due to mismatched or corrupted drivers.
✅ Troubleshooting Steps for Audio & Driver Errors
1. Check Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all pending updates.
- Restart your PC even if not prompted.
2. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers Completely
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click both:
- Intel Management Engine Interface
- Intel Smart Sound Technology SST OED
- Select Uninstall device and check Delete the driver software for this device.
- Restart your PC.
- Download fresh drivers from the HP ENVY x360 15-dr1001ni Drivers Page.
3. Install Matching Audio Driver Versions
- Ensure the Intel SST Audio Controller and OED driver are from the same release package.
- Mismatched versions can trigger Code 10 errors.
4. Update BIOS
- Visit the BIOS section of HP’s support page.
- Download and install the latest BIOS update.
- Do not interrupt power during the update.
5. Disable Power Management Settings
- In Device Manager, right-click Intel Management Engine Interface.
- Go to Properties > Power Management.
- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
6. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
- Download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows.
- Run Audio Test and System Test under Component Tests to rule out hardware faults.
7. Use HP Support Assistant
- Open HP Support Assistant and scan for updates.
- Install any recommended driver or firmware updates.
8. Perform System Restore
- Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point before the issue began.
9. Check for Windows Known Issues
- Visit Microsoft’s Known Issues Page to see if your build has related bugs.
10. Try a Clean Boot
- Type msconfig in the Start menu.
- Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Go to Startup > Open Task Manager and disable all startup items.
- Restart and test the audio.
Let me know how it goes—whether the sound returns or if the errors persist. You’ve been incredibly persistent, and we’re close to cracking this! 💪😊
