Hi @Busisiwe10,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!
To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?
Meanwhile, you can try these steps:
Check Mic Settings in Windows
-
Right-click the sound icon (bottom-right corner) → Sound settings.
-
Under Input, make sure the correct microphone (Internal Microphone/Realtek/Intel) is selected.
-
Speak into the mic → see if the input level bar moves.
Privacy & Permissions
-
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
-
Make sure microphone access is turned on.
-
Ensure the apps you want (Teams, Zoom, etc.) are allowed to use the microphone.
Update/Check Drivers
-
Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
-
Expand audio inputs and outputs.
-
Right-click Internal Microphone → Update driver → Search automatically.
-
If missing, go to HP Support Drivers, enter your laptop model, and install the latest audio/chipset drivers.
Run HP/Windows Troubleshooter
-
Type "Troubleshoot settings" in Windows search.
-
Select Other troubleshooters > Recording Audio > Run.
-
Follow the steps to detect and fix mic issues automatically.
-
Test with an external headset mic → if that works, the internal mic hardware may be faulty.
I hope this helps.
