My internal microphone has never worked...my computer is 6 months old.  The troubleshooter steps do not fix the problem.  I have followed steps suggested to others who have had the same problem but they only fix the issue for a brief moment, then the settings automatically revert to "mute".

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance issues with the internal Microphone of the computer. I will be really glad to assist you here. Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge? Do you remember?
  • Did you run diagnostics on the computer?

For now please try these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Then check the box delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and audio drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2syreDe and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Then check if the situation has been corrected.

 

  • If it persists and if you have performed all the recommended steps from this link: http://hp.care/2DAMeN1 and the situation still persists, then try these steps:
  • Please backup your important data and perform a Microsoft push-button reset on the computer from this link: http://hp.care/2toQrBj  
  • (HP PCs - Microsoft Push-Button Reset (Windows 10) and if the issue gets fixed.

If the problem still continues, then there is more to it than meets the eye. Contact HP phone support to get the computer serviced.

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

 

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient. Perform these steps in the same order. This should resolve the issue for you. Your technically very competent and have profound expertise. I am able to judge that by your post. So you should be able to perform these steps without breaking any sweat.
