Microsoft Windows 11

My microphone sounds like I'm in a bucket. Went through Microsoft support to make sure all drivers and updates were up to date... they said I needed a new driver to support W11v24H2.

Can someone help with this? All of my input audio sounds like I'm driving 90 miles down the interstate. This has been happening for weeks.

Hi @jilleverton, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the microphone issues you're experiencing on your HP desktop after updating to Windows 11 version 24H2. This problem, where the microphone audio sounds distorted or muffled, has been reported by other users as well.

Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Update or Roll Back Audio Drivers:

>Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can cause microphone issues.

>Visit the HP Support website and navigate to the drivers section for your specific desktop model.

>Download and install the latest audio drivers compatible with Windows 11 v24H2.

>If the problem started after a recent driver update, consider rolling back to a previous version:

*Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

*Expand Sound, video and game controllers.

*Right-click your audio device and select Properties.

*Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.

Check Microphone Permissions:

Ensure that apps have permission to access your microphone:

>Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.

>Make sure that Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are turned on.

Set the Microphone as Default Recording Device:

>Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.

>Under Input, ensure your microphone is selected.

>Speak into your microphone and check if the input level bar moves.

Run the Recording Audio Troubleshooter:

Navigate to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

Find and run the Recording Audio troubleshooter.

 Adjust Microphone Levels:

>Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.

>Under Input, select your microphone and click Device properties.

>Adjust the volume slider and test the microphone to see if the quality improves.

Disable Audio Enhancements:

Sometimes, audio enhancements can cause issues:

>Right-click the speaker icon and select Sound settings.

>Under Input, select your microphone and click Device properties.

>Click Additional device properties.

>Go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements.

Check for BIOS Updates:

An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause hardware compatibility issues:

Visit the HP Support website and check if there's a BIOS update available for your desktop model.

Follow the provided instructions carefully to update the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
