Hi @EmpowermentQ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing microphone issues with your HP ENVY 17.3 Inch Laptop while using Zoom, there could be several reasons behind the problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the microphone issues:

Check Zoom Settings:

  • Open Zoom and click on your profile picture, then select "Settings."
  • Under the "Audio" tab, make sure the correct microphone is selected in the "Microphone" dropdown menu.
  • Test your microphone using the "Test Mic" button in Zoom settings.

System Settings:

  • Ensure that your laptop's microphone is enabled in the Windows settings (assuming you are using Windows). Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Sound," and make sure the microphone is turned on and set as the default recording device.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause microphone issues. Go to the HP website or use the HP Support Assistant to check for and install the latest audio drivers for your laptop.

Check Physical Connections:

  • If you're using an external microphone, ensure that it's properly connected to your laptop.
  • If you're using a built-in microphone, make sure there is no physical obstruction covering it, and the laptop's microphone is not muted.

Test with Other Apps:

  • Test your microphone with other applications (e.g., Voice Recorder, Skype) to see if the issue is specific to Zoom or if it's a broader problem with your microphone.

Zoom Permissions:

  • Check if Zoom has the necessary permissions to access your microphone. Go to "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Microphone" and ensure Zoom is allowed to access it.

Background Noise Suppression:

  • Zoom has noise suppression settings. In Zoom settings, you can adjust the noise suppression level. Try turning this feature off or reducing the noise suppression level if it's causing issues with your microphone.

Zoom Updates:

  • Ensure that Zoom is up to date. Outdated versions of Zoom might have compatibility issues with hardware.

Restart Zoom:

  • Sometimes, simply restarting the Zoom application can resolve microphone issues.

System Restart:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart of your computer can resolve microphone issues, as it can refresh system settings and configurations.

Check for Other Software Conflicts:

  • Some third-party applications may interfere with microphone access. Temporarily disable or uninstall any recently installed software that might be causing conflicts.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve most microphone issues you encounter while using Zoom on your HP ENVY laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
