My monitor has never had this issue before, but I recently brought it back to my campus, and the audio I used to get from my HDMI cord no longer outputs. I tried to update my drivers, but my monitor does not have a driver for Windows 11. What do I do?

Hi @Weston11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If your monitor used to provide audio via HDMI and has stopped, even though you've moved it to a different location or updated your operating system to Windows 11, there could be several reasons behind this.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Select HDMI as Default Audio Device:

  • Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar.
  • Select "Sounds" or "Sound Settings."
  • Go to the "Playback" tab.
  • Ensure the HDMI device is set as the default device. If it's not visible, right-click and select "Show Disabled Devices," then enable the HDMI audio output.

Update Graphics and Audio Drivers:

  • Use the Device Manager to update the drivers for your graphics card and audio device.
  • Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand "Sound, video and game controllers."
  • Right-click your audio device and select "Update driver."
  • Similarly, update your display/graphics driver under "Display adapters."

Check Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings
  • Update & Security
  • Windows Update.
  • Click "Check for updates" to ensure all updates, including drivers, are installed.

Connect the Monitor to Another Device:

  • Test the HDMI connection with a different device to rule out any cable or monitor issues.

UEFI Test for Audio:

  • Turn on or restart your computer.
  • Quickly press the Esc key repeatedly until you access the Startup Menu.
  • Then press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests:
  • When the diagnostics menu appears, select "Component Tests" from the menu.
  • Select Audio Tests:
  • In the Component Tests menu, look for the "Audio" option.
  • Speaker Test
  • Microphone Test
  • Run the Test
  • Select the specific audio test which is speaker.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test. This may involve listening to sounds or recording audio to check for proper functionality.

I hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
