HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 (169W3AV)

I've tested multiple working headphones, tried changing the sound settings, reinstalled the audio driver, even factory-reset it, but this laptop still won't detect any headphones I plug in; it still says "headphones unplugged". This laptop is brand-new, and everything should be working hardware-wise.

Hi @Giuthais,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Envy x360 laptop. When your laptop is not detecting any headphones you plug in, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check the headphone connection: Ensure that the headphones are properly plugged into the audio jack. Sometimes a loose connection can prevent detection.
  • Test the headphones on another device: To determine if the issue is with the headphones or the laptop, try using the headphones on another device such as a smartphone or another computer. If they work fine on another device, the problem is likely with your laptop.
  • Update audio drivers: Outdated or faulty audio drivers can cause problems with headphone detection. Visit the official HP support website and download the latest audio drivers for your laptop model. Install them and restart your computer to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Check audio settings: Make sure that the audio settings on your laptop are correctly configured to use headphones. Right-click on the volume icon in the system tray and select "Playback devices" (or "Sounds" > "Playback" tab). Ensure that the headphones are set as the default playback device.
  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches or conflicts. Restart your laptop and see if it detects the headphones afterward.
  • Try different headphones: If you have access to another pair of headphones, try using them with your laptop. This will help determine if the issue is specific to the original headphones or a more general problem with the audio jack.
  • Run audio troubleshooting: Windows has built-in audio troubleshooting tools that can help diagnose and fix common audio issues. Open the Windows Settings, go to "System" > "Sound" and under "Troubleshoot" select the option to troubleshoot audio problems. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
