I've been having terrible audio lately when using my PC, whether it's watching videos or just listening to music etc. The audio keeps cutting out and has been a major bother to me, I tried installing realtek audio drivers disabling audio enhancements, I'm not sure what I can do. Can I please get some help with this?

Hi @Joh79,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP PC is having audio issues where sound keeps cutting out. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check physical connections
– Make sure speakers or headphones are securely plugged in.
– Try different audio devices to see if the issue persists.

Set the correct playback device
– Right-click the speaker icon → Sound settings → Choose the correct output device.
– Sometimes Windows may switch outputs if multiple devices are connected.

Update or reinstall audio drivers
– Go to Device Manager → Sound, video, and game controllers → Right-click your audio device → Update driver.
– If updating doesn’t help, uninstall the driver, restart the PC, and let Windows reinstall it automatically.

Check audio enhancements
– Right-click the speaker icon → Sound settings → Device properties → Additional device properties → Enhancements tab → Disable all enhancements.
– Some enhancements can conflict with audio playback.

Adjust power management settings
– Go to Device Manager → Sound device → Properties → Power Management → Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
– This prevents Windows from intermittently cutting power to the audio device.

Run Windows audio troubleshooter
– Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot → Additional troubleshooters → Playing Audio → Run the troubleshooter.
– Windows can detect and fix common audio issues automatically.

Check for background apps or conflicts
– Close apps that might take exclusive control of the audio device (like streaming apps, games, or communication tools).
– Restart the PC after closing them to see if the issue resolves.

Test in Safe Mode
– Boot into Safe Mode with networking and check audio.
– If the audio works fine in Safe Mode, the issue may be caused by third-party software or conflicts.

I hope this helps.
