Until recently the sound output worked normally, i.e. separate left and right sound channels. Something has caused the right channel to disappear. The sound card now functions like a mono, single channel device. The most recent change to the system was the Windows 10 feature update. I've tried all the built in diagnostics, the HP diagnostic tool and searching for updated drivers. I've just about reached the limit of my abilities and would appreciate some advice or alternative approaches.

Have you tried connecting these speakers to a different PC and check if it works?
Let us also perform a test on the sound card.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests > Audio.
Share the results. Keep me posted.

@JohnH12, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let’s try the steps mentioned below to change your audio output to stereo.
- From the bottom-right corner, click on the Speaker icon > right-click on “Sounds” icon and choose “Playback devices” option.
- Select your headphones/speakers. Click the "Configure" button, which pulls up the Speaker Setup dialog box.
- Select "Stereo" from the "Audio Channels" menu and test the current settings.
- Also, click on “Properties” after selecting the “Speakers / Headphones” and navigate to “Advanced” tab.
- Try changing the “Default format” to appropriate studio qualities if it makes it better.
- If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Install updates using HP Support Assistant
- In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for updates.
- If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
Make sure the BIOS is up to date. Refer to this document for more info.
You may also perform step 3 and step 4 from this document (Slip if already tried)
Let me know how this goes.
If you feel my post solved your issue, please click “Accept as Solution”, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Hi Kumar,
Thanks for the update. I completed the initial steps, When you test the individual speakers the right hand speaker graphic acts as though sound should be coming out, but nothing is heard.
I moved onto the support assistant, and it reports no updates are available and that no bios updates are required.
Regards
John

Hi Kumar,
I was following you suggestion to try the speakers on another PC when I noticed that the left speaker had been moved and the connection to the right speaker had been dislodged. Its all a bit embarrassing really.
The Audio test was fine, except there was no sound from the right speaker, which on reflection was logical.
Still, all working fine now,
