FOR PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM:

First, check if you have a folder called SWSetup on your computer. This contains the code to set up audio drivers.

If you do:

1. Open device manager by searching in the start menu

2. Select "Video Game and Sound Controllers"

3. Go to action > add new drivers

4. Click browse and navigate to the SWSetup folder. Select it then click next.

If you do not have a folder with this name:

1. Dowlnoad the file linked from @Resistencia below

2. Run it. It will create a folder called SWSetup.

3. Do the steps above.

ORIGINAL QUESTION:

After the most recent windows 11 update (KB5041585 Security Update for Microsoft Windows), I can not play audio from my "HP ENVY x360 2-in-1 Laptop 13-bf0xxx" laptop. Originally, there was an audio device shown in device manager (enabled) called "Cirrus Logic Awesome Speaker Amp" or something, but Windows could not play any sound out of it and it did not recognise the device anywhere except in Device Manager. It did not show up in the playback section of more sound settings. I tried updating the drivers but it did not help.

I saw something on a Microsoft forum telling me to right click the device and "uninstall" it, then to restart my computer. This should have automatically reinstalled the device drivers from scratch. So I uninstalled the device and restarted my computer.

But this did not help: now the device does not show up in Device Manager at all. Most of the troubleshooting info I find online says to do something or other with the audio driver in Device Manager but now there is no audio driver shown in Device Manager; the "Sound and Video Game Controllers" section has disappeared entirely.

The only help I could find online for this situation said to go into the UEFI settings and enable "onboard audio". So I went into the UEFI settings but there is definitely no option anywhere that even relates to audio. I explored the whole thing but the options are very limited. So, I reset the UEFI settings to default instead, hoping that would fix the problem, but it did not.

I know the hardware is working because I ran the HP audio output test and it indeed plays a sequence of five notes out loud as it should, so it says the test passes.

I don't know what to do at this point. How do I get the device to show up in device manager again since the hardware is clearly working?

I already ran the Windows audio troubleshooter program which found no devices connected and said I needed to have an audio device connected to run the toubleshooter.

EDIT: after restarting my computer a couple more times, the "Cirrus Logic Awesome Speaker Amps" has magically appeared back in device manager, and again it is enabled. But I still have not been able to fix the problem, and despite the device being enabled, it does not show up in the "playback" section of More Sound Settings.

Also, if I plug in my external headphones using the headphone jack, they do not show up at all in device manager nor in sound settings. It seems Windows simply cannot find sound devices for some reason. Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Hi @Lecdi

go to the device manager, then click on Sound, video and game controllers, uninstall the Realtek driver, it will ask if you want to remove the software, check the box, accept and then restart the device, then install the next sound driver.

Thanks for the reply @Resistencia

How do I uninstall the realtek driver? This is what I am seeing right now

I don't see any realtek driver and I have already tried uninstalling the Cirrus Logic ... which didn't work.

you do not have it then install the driver directly

@Resistencia

I downloaded the file you linked and I ran it and it seemed to install a driver. It created an SWSetup folder in my program files as expected.

Then I restarted my computer.

But the new driver still does not show up in device manager and I still see "no audio devices installed". Do you know what the problem is; is there something else I have to do to install the driver correctly?

EDIT: It is working now, thank you so much!

It turns out that after I downloaded the linked file and ran it, it didn't actually install the driver, it installed the "driver setup" or whatever.

So after I did that, I opened up device manager, selected "Video Game and Sound Controllers" and went to Action > Add new drivers. Then I browsed to the C:\Program Files\SWSetup folder and clicked next.

Then it actually installed all the drivers and my sound immediately started working.

Try updating the BIOS.
