HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation Desktop PC (4Y0H8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Recently purchsed an HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation Desktop PC (Win 11 pro). Using the external front and rear audio output connectors I can hear audio via an exteranal amp / headphones. The manual suggests there are internal speakers -  but these don't emit any sound. I've run through the HP Support Assistant (checks driver, default audio device etc) and this hasn't helped. The default speakers are set to Realtek R Audio.

That the external connectors (into an amp or headphones) work fine suggests the drivers and internal electronics are ok, but implies the internal speakers (as shown in the user maintenace manual) are faulty or missing

Any thoughts / advice appreciated.

check if you have the option to disable speakers in the BIOS, see page 53 of the BIOS manual.

Hi @RobL500

I don't think it's a speaker for the audio card, it's a mono speaker, it's just to indicate error messages.

Thanks for the reply. That might explain it although I haven't heard anything at all by way of sound from the internal speaker. My other HP workstation (Z240 tower) does play audio through the internal speaker (though maybe the newer workstation isn't designed to do that).

Check in sound configuration how many outputs  pc can have, and you must set in mono mode.

Thanks.

Win 11 settings show 3 options. The default is set to Realtek Audio. Changing to mono doesn't seem to make any difference:

Trawled through the HP support pages - impossible to contacr a technical support person even after trying all the

suggested checks (many of which amounted to clutching at straws. The 'virtual assistantant' was largely a waste of time and ended back where I started. The internal speaker on the workstation hasn't worked since I bought it 6 weeks ago. I'm beiginning to regret buying from HP given the lack of support.

Have you opened the tower and checked that the speaker is connected?

Yes, and the speaker does seem to be conncected correctly (speaker lead plugged unto the mother board (into the the connector point marked 'spkr').

check if you have the option to disable speakers in the BIOS, see page 53 of the BIOS manual.
