Related to the notification beep issue posted here.  I get that as well however.

My issue seems to be with ANY audio my laptop plays... a video on youtube or a video file on my drive, an itunes file on my laptop.. whatever.

 

It doesn't play the actual music/video.. I just get a long continuous beep.

When playing with different sounds on the  control panel -> hardware and sound -> change system sounds -> of 'sounds' you point out above.... ALL of them, come through as a long continuous beep. no differences on any of the available sounds

Interesting add on.. I have a usb headset.. if I plug that in, sound is fine through the headset.  Picking the laptop speakers is not

I downloaded and re-installed realtek drivers from HP site here.. no improvement.  This issue started maybe 3 days ago.. had the laptop for years, never an issue.
