Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The HP website claims the 510-a010 has 5.1 channel audio.  I have a logitech z506 system properly connected to the 3 jacks in the rear panel.  All I can get is stereo.  I think I need to reconfigure the back panel jacks but do not know how.

Have tried several drivers - current version is 6.0.1.7673, but all drivers on HP site have same issue.

Any ideas?  Thanks

The following text is from the HP spec page for this model.

Audio Codec: ALC3863-CG
High Definition (Azalia) 5.1 channel audio support
Audio jack presence detection

Time for me to move on.  I purchased an exterior usb 5.1 soundcard.  I am not going to pursue this one any longer.  Thanks for your help.

Hi! @russell7, Welcome to HP forums!

I understand you have issues getting 5.1 surround sound from the speakers.

I checked the driver version you mentioned it looks to be an older version.

Please update the audio driver version to 6.0.1.7824.

Please find the link to update the audio drivers: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp76501-77000/sp76596.exe

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers! 🙂

Hi Chetan.  Thanks for the reply.  As I mentioned in my post, I tried several drivers, including 7824, all with the same issue.  The older driver I mentioned in my post at least gave the option of stereo and quadraphonic, even though no sound comes from the rear speakers.  7824 only allows stereo.  It appears a registry hack is required to reassign the rear panel jacks.  It is in local machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\  etc. for the realtek driver.  I hesitate to mess in the registry.  I would be willing to pay a reasonable amount to HP if someone can guarantee the sound card will work as stated in the HP spec.  Thanks,  Russell

Hi! @russell7, thanks for the response.

Please try the following steps.

1.      Click on start and select control panel
2.      In control panel, click on sound
3.      Click on "Realtek HDMI Output" and then Properties
4.      Click on “Supported Formats” tab
5.      You will see “Maximum number of channels”
6.      Select 2 or 5 channel.

Let me know if this works.

Have a great day.

Cheers! 🙂

The "Realtek HDMI Output" does not exist in control panel sound.  Thus, there is no "Supported Formats" tab.  The speakers are not connected with an HDMI interface.  They have the typical PC 5.1 green, orange, and black 3.5 mm audio connectors.

@russell7, thanks for the response.

Please install the drivers that I mentioned in the previous posts.

You should get an option of Realtek icon in control panel.

Please update the drivers and let me know the status.

Take care! 🙂

Um, as I stated twice, I have used 6.0.1.7824 downloaded from the HP site.  Prior to my last post, I downloded it again and reinstalled it.  Thru control panel\sound, the "Realtek HDMI output"  tab you describe simply does not exist.  Stereo is still the only option available on playback devices for speakers.  There is not a "supported formats" tab anywhere on the sound page.  The problem is jack assignments.  On the sound page, the speaker properties page shows the rear green jack as LR Rear Panel 3.5mm.   The rear red jack is configured for a microphone in.  The rear red jack should be configured for c sub rear panel 3.5mm jack.  The rear panel blue jack is configured for a 3.5mm jack in.  It should be configured for sl sr rear panel 3.5 mm jack.   I have an HP 450-a114 that works perfectly with the logitech 5.1 speakers and with same 3 rear panel jacks.
