Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

First post here, and thanks to the HP PC techs for this user's remarkably easy introduction to the HP world, after many years on gaming PCs.

On booting the PC the first time, there was a minor issue with the sound working, which was fixed from good advice from these forums. Now as the 0X80070103 issue has cropped up again, it might be worth quoting part of the MSFT response in the link again:

<

On Feb 15, Windows Update began re-offering drivers to devices which already had the driver installed. Many customers saw the duplicate drivers, attempted to install them, and saw the 0x80070103 error. The solution was Microsoft re-publishing the catalog. Nothing on the impacted devices could be done to “fix” the condition because nothing was “wrong” on the devices.

For this thread that began in December, it looks like that included some HP drivers. Those devices had version X, Windows Update got version Y from HP, and re-offered the driver to the device. It was actually the same version and thus the error. The solution for this set of customers would come when HP fixes the driver versioning and republish to Windows Update. Customers could not resolve this on their device, it could only be resolved by HP taking particular actions. The customer could suppress the event by “pausing” updates, but that is not solving it. It is only hiding the error temporarily.

What a shame, guess the two Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Extension - 6.0.9652.1 items sitting in the update queue with the Retry button have to remain there for a while longer.

Did run the Show/Hide troubleshooter, the Hide option didn't detect the Realtek updates, but showed these optional updates:

  • Sound Research Corp. - AudioProcessingObject - 2.0.11.47
    HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 1.66.3762.0
    HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent - 4.7.3.0

Hid the first one just to test, and it was not picked up next time the troubleshooter was launched, so it worked as advertised.

Sound works pretty well, though toying with the idea of using the Soundblaster 1500 from the old machine instead. No issue with the PCI slots then? Others seem to confirm they are flexible enough.

Thanks. 😀
