HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-0034
Microsoft Windows 11

I have had this desktop for a couple of years or so but the problem has existed since I bought it. I tried to get it fixed with the help of an HP agent, and it cost me hours and no resolution. I generally don't work with sound so I gave up and when I needed sound I plugged the headphones. Now I am getting a job for which I will need sound on a very regular basis, and I don't really feel like using a jack cord each time.

The situation is the following: I can pair the headphones to the computer but then it's like the computer itself does not really sees it as sound device.

My drivers are up to date, and it is a situation that was existing when I pull out the computer out of the box.

Thanks for helping

I'd be thrilled to be able to work without a cord

This does not sound good.  I assume the service person was real and not virtual.  You should have been informed of a solution.

I looked at the system spec

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06443577

and then the motherboard spec

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06432435

There is a warning that is strange and really not helpful IMHO.

Questions:

1  You have HDMI output from the motherboard.  Does your monitor have speakers?  if so, they should work.

2  If you have a graphics board, does it have HDMI output to monitor?  Does sound work?

I assume you want to use the Bluetooth headphones.  I have "M3" a tiny Bluetooth speaker. After paring it shows up as a headphone.

If you enter "Manage input audio devices" in the win11 search you should see something like the following

BeemerBiker_1-1643065491699.png

Selecting "headphones" should look like the following:

BeemerBiker_2-1643065551036.png

Clicking on "test" should play through headphones.

All other output devices should have "allow" for the option meaning that the default is that they are NOT allowed to be used.

I am not sure what the original problem was.  Any service personal could use Windows remote desktop to configure the audio for you easily unless that service is not included in basic maintenance.  There should have been no need to bring the item in.

Post back if a problem.

So yes I had the HP service person on the phone, for hours and on. No solution and I had to work...

I have a jack port so I can plug my headphones, I just like to be able to move around when I work and I have a standing station, it's just easier if I don't have a cord.

Anyway here are the pictures after I paired my headphones, I don't understand why the headphones show up as computer... it might be part of the problem.

That device, LE_WH-1000XM3 is your Bluetooth headset as explained here

https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm3/v1/en/contents/TP0001703079.html

It is paired so you should be able to see it show up in "sound"

If you type "sound mixer options" you should see something like the below

M3 is my Bluetooth speaker/mic

You need to see LE_WH-1000XM3 there.  If it is not listed in the pull down then it must be disabled somewhere.

Type "Sound Settings" in the windows search.

It should show up something like this

Also, check the volume, maybe it is too low.

I understand that LE_WH-1000XM3 is my headphone system. They work perfectly well with my laptop and my phone. So while they are paired with the computer (at least it's what the image seems to say), I don't see the headphones in the  sound page

If you tell me that something is disable somewhere I'd love to know what and where. I have done these steps and looked about 2000 times alone and with an agent.

This is not good as I do not see ANY audio device.   Have you checked the BIOS to see if the audio chip was diasabled

Your motherboard is Rother and it comes with an ALC3601-CG chip.  That chip provides audio that gets routed through Bluetooth to the headset.

Advice from someone (myself) who got tired of taking photos of the desktop using iPhone:

Windows 10 had snip and paste:  While in windows, hold down the S key and also the shift and "windows" key and a cursor "X" appears and you can select a region you want copied.  You can then right click in to the HP forum (or any app like WORD or PAINT) and paste the image.  It will NOT work in BIOS.  A picture must be taken with camera

Is is possibly the motherboard audio is dead.  You can add audio two ways

1.  If an empty slot put in an audio card.

2. if no empty slot then usb audio followed by adapter to bluetooth as described here

https://geekmusician.com/how-to-connect-bluetooth-headphones-to-an-audio-interface/

I suspect adding the audio card gets the audio into the express lanes ie: the guts of the computer and you MAY not need to buy an adapter into the back of the card.

You can try adding USB audio and if the Bluetooth does not work but the audio device is found then get that BT  add on device described in the above url.

See if you can find out what is wrong with the existing chip.  Does it show up in bios?

I have sound if I plug the headphones, it seems that the sound does exist. But, I’ll look at the bios (I am pretty sure the HP guy looked at it) when I get a chance. Too much work today

It appears your system has a sound device after all.  Unfortunately, I do no not have your type of laptop and cannot give a walkthrough on fixing the problem.  Maybe someone else here can.

I am guessing your sound mixer does not have access to the device.  You might google how to add a device to the mixer.

Possibly this article might help

Good Luck!
