I've had audio problems since the start with this machine. I think it's the speaker. I don't think it's the computer itself.

 

Some of the time it plays very clear and good quality audio. Quite often though, it provides audio that has a background rattle, distortion or resonance as certain sounds are made. 

 

This distortion can often be heard when watching certain videos. Sometimes the sound quality is very good, other times this distortion is very noticeable. It can be subtle and barely noticeable, or it can be pronounced and obvious. it ranges between extremes. As people speak, voices can become fuzzy or distorted, or have a rattle type echo.

 

It's very obvious when listening to piano music. Sometimes the sound is perfect when listening to piano so it can be fine, but other times and when certain notes are hit this rattle, or distortion is clearly heard as it produces a very fuzzy sound. 

 

It's very frustrating.

 

As I've said, I don't think it's the computer system itself producing bad sound. I think this because it produces very good sound through headphones without any fuzz or distortion. This leads me to think that the computer is producing decent sound, but as it's fed into the speaker, something is going wrong, or the speaker has a problem.

 

I've pinned the equaliser to my start bar, so I can fiddle with the settings to reduce the fuzz. However, whenever you open a new window or change program, and listen to sound through a different route, the settings need adjusting again to reduce the fuzz. Which is why I've pinned the equaliser to the start bar. Sometimes there's very little that can be done to fix the distortion and all that can be done is to turn it down a great deal. On a very low volume it isn't so bad.

 

If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this, that would be great. I suspect that there's a problem with the speaker, or perhaps that's just how the speaker is.

Please do a clean install Audio software/driver, this should help.


(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,

        https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96001-96500/sp96491.exe

(b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver (Realtek) and reboot,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
(d) Reboot again.

I've just tried your suggestion. I was able to do the fresh download, but I don't think it's really had any effect on the sound. The sound seems to be coming through the same as it was before.

 

That's to say, that you can still hear much of the sound fairly well, but this resonance comes through on certain frequencies. I tested by visiting a video on youtube with some piano in it.
