Pavilion 790
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I love my new Pavilion except last week it did the Windows 10 April Update and now the sound keeps turning off.  If I run the sound troubleshooter in the control panel it re-starts the computer and the sound works for a while and then quits again if the computer goes to sleep.  There were a number of other things screwed up by the April Update but I have resolved most of them and the sound is the only hardware issue.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

Let's try a few steps given below:

  • Windows Audio is a Windows service that manages audio for Windows-based programs. If at all this service is stopped due to any reason, audio devices will not function properly.
To fix audio services, open the run command and launch services.msc.

  • In the services window search for Windows Audio and right-click on it to select Start to start the audio service.

  • And ensure the Startup Type is set to Automatic.

  • Click Apply and OK.

Restart the computer and check if it works.

If the issue persists, try the steps mention on this link: Click here.

Let me know how that pans out,

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as  well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help. 🙂

I checked the Services and the Audio was set to automatic and re-start on failure.

One solution referenced IDT High Definition Audio but I have Conexant HD Audio and NVIDIA HD Audio and NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible)(WDM).  I disabled the Conexant and updated the driver, re-started and ran the PC through a sleep cycle and the sound still worked.  Since this problem seems to happen after I've done an iDrive backup I will have to wait until it's finished to see if the problem perisists.  Could these multiple audio devices be conflicting?  I'm not using the NVIDIA HDMI output port.

Thanks
