Hi @Philip128,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is experiencing sound issues after turning it on for the first time, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Check Sound Settings:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner) and select Open Sound settings.
- Ensure the correct playback device (speakers or headphones) is selected under Output.
- Make sure the volume is turned up and not muted.
Check Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video, and game controllers section.
- Check if the sound device is listed without any errors (yellow triangle).
- If you see an error, right-click on the sound device and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Run Audio Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Click on Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Playing Audio and click Run the troubleshooter. Follow the prompts to detect and fix audio problems.
Reinstall Audio Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows will automatically reinstall the audio driver.
Check Default Format:
- Right-click on the speaker icon and select Sounds.
- In the Playback tab, select your speakers and click Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and try changing the Default Format (e.g., from 16 bit, 44100 Hz to 24 bit, 48000 Hz).
Check Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Check for updates and install any pending updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
