Hi @SLeaG,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting static noise from your desktop speakers can be caused by several factors, ranging from hardware issues to software settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Physical Connections
- Cables: Ensure that all cables are securely connected. Loose connections can cause static noise.
- Speakers: If external speakers are connected, try using a different set of speakers or headphones to see if the issue persists.
2. Update Audio Drivers
- Device Manager: Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
- Sound, Video, and Game Controllers: Expand this section, right-click your audio device, and select "Update driver."
- Automatic Search: Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
3. Disable Audio Enhancements
- Control Panel: Open the Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
- Playback Tab: Select your speakers and click "Properties."
- Enhancements Tab: Check the "Disable all enhancements" box and click "Apply."
4. Check Sound Settings
- Volume Levels: Ensure that the volume levels are not set too high, as this can cause distortion and static.
- Balance: Ensure the balance is centered.
5. Run Audio Troubleshooter
- Settings: Go to Settings > System > Sound.
- Troubleshoot: Scroll down to "Advanced sound options" and click "Troubleshoot common sound problems."
6. Check for Interference
- Electronic Devices: Ensure no other electronic devices are causing interference. Keep devices like mobile phones, routers, and other electronics away from your speakers.
7. Check for Software Conflicts
- Background Programs: Close unnecessary background programs that might be causing conflicts.
- Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to see if a startup program is causing the issue. To do this:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services," and then click "Disable all."
- Go to the Startup tab and click "Open Task Manager."
- Disable all startup items and restart your computer.
8. BIOS Update
- HP Website: Check if there is a BIOS update available for your model on the HP support website. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.
9. Check for System Updates
- Windows Update: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
10. Hardware Issues
- If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with the speakers or sound card.
