I've been having audio issues with my laptop since I bought it 6 months ago. There is a persistent crackling sound during calls or media playback. It’s brief (less than a second) but keeps recurring. All drivers are updated.

Hi @jogienics,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the crackling occur only when using headphones/speakers, or with both?
  • Is it more frequent during video calls, streaming, or local playback (like playing a saved file)?
  • Have you noticed if the issue happens when the laptop is charging, on battery, or both?
  • Which operating system version are you currently running?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Audio Enhancements: Disable audio enhancements.
    • Right-click the speaker icon → Sounds → Playback device → Properties → Enhancements tab → check Disable all enhancements.
  2. Power Settings: Adjust your power plan.
    • Go to Control Panel → Power Options and select High Performance. Sometimes power-saving features can affect audio performance.
  3. Device Manager Reset: Reinstall the audio driver.
    • Open Device Manager → expand Sound, video and game controllers → right-click your audio device → Uninstall device. Restart your laptop; Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
  4. BIOS Update: Ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version from HP’s support site, as BIOS updates can resolve hardware-level audio issues.
  5. External Test: If possible, connect external speakers or headphones to check if the issue persists. This helps identify whether the problem is with the internal speakers or the audio system overall

I hope this helps.
