HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Small Form Factor PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using USB Audio devices for a while in my HP Elitedesk 800 G3 sff. I have used the Focusrite 2i2 and the Minifuse 2 USB interfaces for audio and as audio input adapters. I keep having the problem of the devices becoming disconnected. I see that the little speaker in my taskbar has a red x in it and I am getting no audio. If I unplug the USB connection and plug it back in, it connects again. I have turned off the on-board audio in the BIOS to see if this made a difference. It didn't.

What is going on? Is this my Windows 10 Pro? Or is it my HP Elitedesk 800 G3 sff? Since it happens to both USB audio devices, I don't think they are the problem.

I also posted this problem in the MS Community forum here:

I have ran my HP Support Assistant and do not find any outstanding BIOS updates. All I see is an  "Intel RST Driver 15.X ..." update. It looks optional. I have installed it anyway and will report back if it is a fix. Otherwise let me know if this is what you had in mind.

No it does not fix the issue. The sound system is still dropping off.

Here are some additional details.

I have a keyboard synth attached, a Roland FA-06 to my desktop. When the Minifuse 2 shows connected, the FA-06 also shows up as an input and output device. I also use the keyboard learning program Melodics every day where the keyboard functions as a MIDI input. I have MIDI inputs connected to the back of the Minifuse 2. But when I had the same problem with the Focusrite, there were no MIDI connectors there. I also have the Roland FA-06 hooked up with a USB port. I have not noticed that these are associated with the Minifuse 2 dropping off. They don't appear to be connected to the problem.

I've had the problem with these audio devices for a long time and it always seems erratic, not associated with anything.
