HP Pavilion p6 - 2469 ea
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Performed full system reset with delete all personal data option to resolve a typing issue I had and possible malware infection. Now unable to get audio on my PC with red circle with white X next to audio icon.  Performed troubleshoot, which failed to resolve problem: speaker, headset or headphone is unplugged - not fixed (even though speakers are plugged in and switched on). Device Manager says audio device is working properly. Have uninstalled devices and restarted PC (windows automatically reinstalls device) yet problem with media not being plugged in persists. In settings - sound: no output devices found. troubleshoot fails to resolve issue.

Contacted Microsoft support who got me to download sound driver from HP site, but my system wouldn't accept it. They advised me to contact HP support to provide generic sound driver from archive that will work on my system.

Hi:

I see that your PC only has W8 drivers for the IDT audio chip.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model desktop PC and see if that gets the audio to work again on yours.

Restart the PC after installing the driver...
