Hi there,
I recently reset my HP TouchSmart 600 due to it consistently crashing and bootlooping. Since the reset, the volume up and down buttons do not work. I can adjust the volume on screen, but the physical buttons on the side of the monitor do not do anything. I hope there is an easy solution to this.
Thanks.

Hello, @VBanaji – Hope you are well 🙂
Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!
I do understand that you are having trouble using the volume buttons on your HP TouchSmart after the recent Windows update. Do not worry, here are some steps to fix the issue:
1) Run the Windows updates on your PC. Restart the PC once done.
2) Use the HP Support Assistant to update the drivers.
HP Support Assistant is a software program designed to help you keep your computer in working order, prevent potential problems from arising, and resolve problems quickly and easily. The program also provides valuable system information that you need when troubleshooting computer problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2gFA6Q8 to install the HP SA if you do not have it already.
Also, if you have the HP SA installed then go to http://hp.care/2gqoIri and follow the steps under “Checking for HP updates’ to find and install the updates.
3) Perform a system file checker:
- Press Windows Key + X
- Click Command Prompt (Admin)
- Type in: sfc /scannow
- Press Enter.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂

Hello, @VBanaji
Thanks for the update!
Did you try the system file checker option? That have fixed many similar issues as per many online community threads.
If that does not work, then please follow the steps below:
- Go to Search, type services.msc, and go to Services
- Find Windows Audio, right click on it, and go to Properties
- First, make sure that Startup type is set to Automatic.
- Then, click on Stop, and wait for the process to stop
- Now, click to Start again
- Restart your computer, and check if the issue is resolved
If you need further assistance, please reply with the complete product number of your PC. If unsure, please check: http://hp.care/2oPCMBG
Thanks, I will watch for your reply!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @VBanaji
I checked the PC drivers and specifications, and the issue is caused because you need to install the drivers for the original driver for the Buttons and OSDs ACPI solutions. These are the drivers which help you use the volume button on your TouchSmart.
Check http://hp.care/2tprqqe
Unfortunately, the Windows 10 drivers are not available. Hence, try and install the Windows 7 version and see if that works.
Click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL35150/pv-87084-1/sp49791.exe to download and install the drivers.
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂

Thanks for the help @Dvortex, however I get a message saying that my computer does not meet the requirements to install the driver. I believe this is because I am on Windows 10 and not Windows 7. Is there anything else I can do to get the buttons to work again?

Hello, @VBanaji
I did some digging online and stumbled on a different driver for Buttons and OSDs ACPI solutions.
Give this a try: https://drp.su/en/devices/other/hp/buttons-and-osds-acpi-driver-gen2?os=windows-10-x64#
Let me know if that helps!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @VBanaji
As the last step, let's try to install the software using the recovery manager. HP Recovery Manager is a software program for Windows that comes with HP's consumer PCs. Use HP Recovery Manager to reinstall some of the hardware drivers and software programs that originally came with your HP computer. Not all software is available to be reinstalled.
I found a wonderful document to help you get this done. Please follow the steps here: http://hp.care/2pZd4Hp
Let me know how that goes!
Good luck 🙂
