Why does this occur? I tried following similar steps from fellow user who had an error with the "Audio Device on HD Audio Bus", but it just shows this:
(Translation: Windows found a problem when installing the drivers for this device. Windows found the driver software for this device, but an error occured when trying to install it. This operation requires an station of an interactive window. If you know who made the device, search for information about software of the driver in the section of Technical Support of the website of the creator.)
What am I supposed to do??? 😞

Hi @ToadMaker_YT,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The error you're seeing— “This operation requires an interactive window station”—usually happens when Windows tries to install a driver in a non-interactive session, like during a background service or a remote desktop session. This can especially be a problem on Windows 8.1, which has some quirks with driver installations.
1. Install the Driver Manually in Normal Mode
- Restart your PC and log in normally (not in Safe Mode or via Remote Desktop).
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the device with the error (e.g., “Audio Device on HD Audio Bus”).
- Choose Update Driver > Browse my computer for drivers.
- Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- If you see a compatible driver, select it and click Next.
2. Use HP’s Official Driver Installer
- Go to HP’s support page and enter your model: HP ENVY 17t-cg100.
- Download the Audio and Chipset drivers for Windows 8.1 (64-bit).
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
3. Use Compatibility Mode
If the driver installer is for Windows 10/11:
- Right-click the installer .exe file.
- Go to Properties > Compatibility.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 8.
- Click Apply, then OK, and run the installer.
4. Use HP Support Assistant
- If it’s not already installed, download HP Support Assistant.
- It can auto-detect and install the correct drivers for your system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
